Opening Ceremony will Kick off Games
The 34th annual Show-Me State Games are right around the corner, and they will be kicked off with the Opening Ceremony! This year’s Opening Ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 20th in Mizzou Arena. The event is free and open to the public and will be filled with lots of fun entertainment!
How to participate
The Opening Ceremony will feature the Parade of Athletes, where each athlete will have the opportunity to represent their sport. Athletes should report to the Main Entrance of Mizzou Arena by 6:30 p.m. Look for the volunteers in bright green t-shirts, they will help you find the correct place to line up.
The annual torch run and lighting of the cauldron are two traditions of the Show-Me State Games Opening Ceremony that are similar to the actual Olympics’ Opening Ceremony. The Show-Me State Games’ torch is lit and run through 10 different cities across Missouri, much like the Olympic torch is paraded through the host country. This year the Shelter Insurance Torch Run stopped in Springfield, Joplin, Kansas City, St. Joe, Hannibal, Cape Girardeau, St. Louis, and St. Charles. The last two stops will be in Jefferson City and Columbia on July 20th. In previous years the Show-Me State Games has had numerous different Olympians and prominent figures light the cauldron at the conclusion of the torch run.
One special guest that will be featured at the Opening Ceremony is this year’s Miss Missouri, Katelyn Lewis. Lewis’ platform is “What Will Your Legacy Be? Living Safely in Our Digital Age.” The aim of the platform is leaving a positive footprint online.
The Opening Ceremony is an event you don’t want to miss! Stay tuned for additional details about special guests in attendance!
