Pumpkin Fun Run Set for October 6!

Did you know pumpkins have more fiber than kale, more potassium than bananas, and are also loaded in magnesium and iron?  It is only fitting that the Show-Me STATE GAMES and University of Missouri Children’s Hospital have named its event after this healthy fall favorite.  The 6th annual Pumpkin Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m. on October 6 at Philips Lake Park in Columbia.

This 1.4-mile run/walk is open to Boone County students grades K-5. Parents and teachers are also encouraged to participate.  There is a $10 entry fee for students, which includes a t-shirt and registration packet.  Parents and teachers run free (does not include t-shirt).

As an added incentive to participate, students can help win $500 for their school. The three schools in each enrollment category that have the highest percentage of students participate will win $500 for their physical education department.

“We’re excited to host the Pumpkin Fun Run and appreciate the support of MU Children’s Hospital,” said Dave Fox,  Show-Me STATE GAMES Executive Director. “The Pumpkin Run encourages kids in our community to take part in an event of health, fitness, family and fun while also building school pride.”

We’re thrilled to be part of the annual Pumpkin Fun Run,” said Keri Simon, executive director of MU Children’s Hospital. “As mid-Missouri’s only hospital dedicated to serving children, this is a natural fit for us. What a great way to promote health and wellness — and have fun doing it.”
