Entries must be postmarked or received via the internet by July 1.  Late entries may be allowed, on a space availability basis.


CHECK-IN:  

All teams must check-in at least 1 hour prior to your first game.  Check-in and weigh-ins will take place at Cosmo Park at the Wussler Shelter - the new covered shelter/pavillion next to football field #6. See map here:


PAPERWORK NEEDED FOR CHECK-IN:

For each player on the team, the following will need to be turned in:

  • Signed & completed Show-Me State Games Waiver for EVERY PLAYER.  Participants will NOT be able to play without signed waiver turned in.  Print off the waiver form.
  • Proof of age (copy of birth certificate)

WEIGH-INS:  (All team members).  Weigh-ins will also be done the Wussler Shelter at Cosmo Park. All players advancing the ball must be weighed. This must also be done at least 1 hour prior to your first game.

Format/Rules

Show-Me State Games Youth Football Rules

General Rules - Apply to ALL DIVISIONS

  • NFHS rules will be used, with the additions/exceptions noted in your specific division's information section.
  • Age will be determined by competitors age on June 1 of the current year.
  • Game Length: All games will consist of four (4) - fifteen (15) minute quarters.  Clock will run continously except for the last 2 minutes of each half.
  • Overtime Periods: Will consist of NFHS rule for 10 yd overtime rules (pg 78 NFHS rules) with the exception that only one (1) set of downs will be played. Then, if the score remains tied, the game will stand as a tie unless game is part of bracket play and a winner needs to be determined.
  • Lines to Gain/Field Set-up: Fields will be divided into 5 or 10 yard zones so that all yards to gain are 10 yards. All penalties and field set-up will conform to NFHS and MSHSAA rules. All fields will be marked with extended yard lines to mark coach's box as follows: Boxes will be at the 20 yard lines. No persons other than Officials, Referees, Coaches & Players are allowed in the box. Any other person in the box may lead to penalization for unsportsmanlike conduct and a 15 yard penalty will be assessed.
  • Penalties: NFHS rules apply for the calling of penalties as well as marking of penalties (5, 10 & 15 yrd increments)

Added Rules - 8 and Under / 9 and Under / 10 and Under

  • Coaches on Field: One coach is allowed on the field for the offensive & defensive teams during game. When the quarterback starts his cadence, the coaches must stop coaching.
  • Offenses: If a fumble occurs during the Center to Quarterback exchange, it is ruled a dead ball and loss of down.  If a fumble occurs during a shotgun snap, the ball is live.
  • Defenses: All interior defensive linemen must be in a three or four point stance. Maximum of 6 players on the defensive line. All other players must be 3 yards from the line of scrimmage at the snap.  Defensive linemen can lineup over center to prevent quarterback sneaks.
  • Kickoffs: All kickoffs will be played as specified by NFHS rules.
  • Punts: Punts are dead plays, no rush/no return. Kicker must kick the ball upon receiving the snap. Ball will be dead & change of possession will occur where the ball is caught or comes to rest.
  • Place Kicking: None
  • Scoring for P.A.T.: 1 point for run, 2 points for pass.
  • Weight Limits: The maximum weight limit for any player advancing the ball by running or passing is 115 pounds (10 and under), 105 pounds (9 and under), 90 pounds (8 and under). The weight used to determine this requirement will be the weight measured at check-in. No other weights will be used.

Added Rules - 11 and Under

  • Defenses: All interior defensive linemen must be in a three or four point stance. Maximum of 6 players on the defensive line. All other players must be 3 yards from the line of scrimmage at the snap.
  • Kickoffs: All kickoffs will be played as specified by NFHS rules.
  • Punts: Punts are dead plays, no rush/no return. A deep snap is required. Kicker must kick the ball upon receiving the snap. Ball will be dead & change of possession will occur where the ball is caught or comes to rest.
  • Place Kicking: Players are required to take a knee for extra points (by kicking) and field goals. A deep snap is required.
  • Scoring for P.A.T.: 1 point for run or pass, 2 points for kick.
  • Weight Limits: The maximum weight limit for any player advancing the ball by running or passing is 130 pounds (11 and under). The weight used to determine this requirement will be the weight measured at check-in. No other weights will be used.

Added Rules - 12 and Under / 13 and Under / 14 and Under

  • Kickoffs: All kickoffs will be played as specified by NFHS rules.
  • Punts: Punting will occur in accordance with NFHS rules.
  • Place Kicking: Place kicks will occur in accordance with NFHS rules.
  • Scoring for P.A.T.: 1 point for run or pass, 2 points for kick.
  • Weight Limits: The maximum weight limit for any player advancing the ball by running or passing is 155 pounds (12 and under), 180 pounds (13 and under), 180 pounds (14 and under). The weight used to determine this requirement will be the weight measured at check-in. No other weights will be used.
